Wilma Murto has been together with her husband for many years.

When the pole vault World Cup final ended in July in Eugene, USA, Wilma Murto rushed under the stands to kiss the tattooed man in the top hat.

The man leaning over the advertising fence of the auditorium in a sensitive moment was Murro’s spouse Jaakko Linkoheimo. He is a physical education teacher and coach of the Finnish electric wheelchair volleyball national team.

– He is important. He knows the most about my life and is present. He lives with challenges and victories, Murto says now warmly.

The couple has been together for several years. They don’t live together, but they support each other closely.

Corona restrictions made it difficult for spectators to enter athletics stands for a long time. Linkoheimo was on site at the Murro race for the first time last year.

He will be in the stands in Munich when the European Athletics Championships begin on Monday.

– These are the first trips abroad. It’s really nice to have him on board.

According to Murro, Linkoheimo brings a good new perspective to his daily life as an athlete.

The different starting points are due to the fact that Linkoheimo’s sports background is team sports and crossfit.

– I have to explain why we do or think about things in a certain way. He challenges my own thoughts, says Murto.

– Mainly, he is a counterweight that you don’t always have to talk about sports. No one’s work matters are discussed.

The couple has a summer of three championships. In addition to the World Cup and European Championship in jumping, Linkoheimo was in the World Championship of electric wheelchair floorball.

Finland lost the bronze medal match to Switzerland at the Games.

– He comes here from coaching and the World Cup, Murto refers to Munich.

Murro also has other family in Germany to support him. He also plans to meet his spouse at a suitable interval.

– You have to look at the schedules first. Maybe for lunch on a break, Murto lingers.

Pole vault qualification will be jumped on Monday at 11.25 am. The final will be played on Wednesday.
