Olympic and world champion Faith Kipyegon just missed the world record over 1500 meters at the Diamond League meeting in Monte Carlo.
In 3:50.37 minutes, the Kenyan ran the second fastest time ever over this distance. Only world record holder Genzebe Dibaba from Ethiopia was also faster in Monaco in July 2015 with a time of 3:50.07 minutes.
The sprinters provided another highlight. Jamaican world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the 100 meters in 10.62 seconds ahead of Shericka Jackson (Jamaica) who ran 10.71 seconds.
The American Noah Lyles won over 200 meters in a first-class time of 19.46 seconds. In his World Championship victory in Eugene/USA he came closer to the world record set by Usain Bolt (Jamaica/19.19) in 19.31 seconds.
German athletes were not at the start in Monte Carlo.
