The singer and actress Olivia Newton-John, who became world famous with the musical adaptation “Grease” in the 1970s, died on Monday (8 August) at the age of 73. This was reported by numerous US media, citing the husband and his post on the British-Australian social media channels

“Olivia Newton-John passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by family and friends at her ranch in Southern California,” the statement said on Facebook. “Olivia has been a symbol of triumph and hope for over 30 years as she shares her experience with breast cancer.”
Newton-John’s breakthrough role was in 1978’s Grease, the film adaptation of the musical of the same name, about a rock ‘n’ roll love story among 1950s high school students. In it, she played Sandy and received a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical category. “You’re The One That I Want” became a worldwide hit; Newton-John has received four Grammys over the course of her career as an artist.
