Ómicron has changed the course of the pandemic, with many more cases, but less serious

The pharmaceutical company believes that they will be available in time for the autumn booster vaccination campaigns

BioNTech and Pfizer have confirmed this Monday, August 8, the date in which they wait for the Omicron booster vaccine against COVID-19 to arrive, that is, the version adapted to the variants BA.1 and BA.4/5. These have been the strains that have caused the pandemic to change forever, with many more cases, but less serious than in previous waves.

The pharmaceutical company assures that the specific doses against Ómicron will arrive in October 2022, “in time for autumn booster vaccination campaigns“. It will be at this time when governments will begin to vaccinate risk groups with a new vaccine specifically adapted to the Omicron variant. For example, the drug developed in Spain is effective against the mutationand it is expected that the Pfizer have the same effect.

The new variants of Omicron (BA. 4 and BA.5) were identified earlier in the year in South Africa, and represent the majority of sequenced cases worldwide. While in Spain we have just emerged from the seventh wave of infections, in the rest of the countries they are experiencing a new increase in cases and hospitalizations.
