The 33-year-old Australian is in his second season with McLaren. Last year, Ricciardo, who has been driving in Formula 1 since 2011 and finished third in the World Cup twice with Red Bull, won the Grand Prix of Italy at the Monza circuit. He was nevertheless regularly outflanked by his British team-mate Lando Norris, who finished two places above him in the World Cup standings. This season the difference is even greater. While Norris already collected 76 points, Ricciardo is only 19 points. That is why the Australian threatens to leave McLaren.
Alonso will move to Aston Martin after this season, where he will take over from four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. The German is leaving Formula 1.
Ricciardo has won eight Grands Prix in his career, seven of which have been with Red Bull. The Australian was a teammate of Max Verstappen with the Austrian top team for a few years. Ricciardo would not want to leave Formula 1 after a departure from McLaren. He may be taking the opposite route back to Alpine. He remembers that racing stable well from the time when the team was still called Renault.
