The Bundesliga season starts with the derby at Union – but Hertha’s squad plans are far from over!
The capital club definitely wants to reduce its 34-strong squad by the transfer deadline on September 1st.
BZ explains which stars should go to Hertha!
► Jurgen Ekkelenkamp (22) does not get a chance in his second season in Berlin under new coach Sandro Schwarz (43) and did not even make it into the match day squad in Braunschweig. The former Ajax talent hasn’t fully adapted to the physically demanding Bundesliga.
Therefore, the farewell could now follow. Recently, Belgian media reported interest from Antwerp and Bruges. However, it is questionable whether the Belgian clubs can finance a transfer.
After all: With Jean-Paul Boetius (28 / without a club) there would probably be a successor. According to BZ information, there is close contact between Hertha and the Dutchman.

►Omar Alderete (25) has to keep fit individually in Berlin. After the centre-back broke the deal with Getafe, he is apparently speculating on a return to Valencia.
► Record strikerKrzysztof Piatek (27) was present in Braunschweig, but was not used. He is to be sold, bring Hertha a fee and a big salary saving (4.5 million euros). The name of the Pole was last traded at BVB.

►Maximilian Mittelstadt (25) was missing in the cup. There is no real position for the left foot under Coach Schwarz. Mittelstädt is allowed to leave the club, but there are said to have been no concrete inquiries recently.
A new striker could then be financed with fresh money. Still at the top of the wish list: Strasbourg’s Ludovic Ajorque (28).
