Moped rider (20) died in accident in Ooigem

The accident happened around 7 pm on the Kanaalweg in Ooigem, along the Roeselare-Leie canal. According to the public prosecutor, the moped rider was driving on the towpath and suddenly noticed a roadblock. He wanted to avoid the obstacle and drove through the berm to the roadway. There he collided with an oncoming vehicle, says a witness.

The moped, a booster, was catapulted tens of meters away. The car came to a stop a hundred yards away. The moped rider died of his injuries. The driver of the car was unharmed.
