National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg wishes for a lasting upswing for the sport after the great performance of the German women’s European Championship.
“We now need clear strategies and implementation. We have to promote talent more, go to the big stadiums and introduce a basic salary in the Bundesliga,” Voss-Tecklenburg demanded on the sidelines of the reception for the DFB selection in Frankfurt.
Captain Alexandra Popp from German champion and cup winner VfL Wolfsburg said in the direction of the German Football Association: “Of course we are hoping that something will happen now. You can hardly create a bigger hype. In this sense, we have fulfilled our target. Now Let’s hope for other people to implement that.”
Bundesliga players should be able to make a living from football
Svenja Huth also wishes for more sustainability in everyday life. “Of course, we players have great hopes that we can take this euphoria that we created through the European Championship into the Bundesliga and future international matches. This includes kick-off times and media broadcasts to ensure that the fans we have won are permanent tie,” said the offensive player. It is also about “that all clubs have a good infrastructure and medical care”. A basis must be created so that players “no longer have to work 30 to 40 hours a week on the side,” Huth demanded.
This is also in the spirit of Siegfried Dietrich, the chairman of the DFB committee for women’s national leagues. “It is crucial that the Bundesliga players can live from football,” said the 65-year-old of the German Press Agency. In order to achieve this, women’s football must have a regular presence. “We now have a huge chance for that,” said Dietrich.
