Germany cries with our football women – and is angry about the new Wembley scam!
In the 2-1 defeat after extra time, we are cheated again almost exactly 56 years after the Wembley goal scandal.
- Minute: With the score at 0:0, the ball rolls through the English five after a corner, but Marina Hegering (32) does not score because three English women throw themselves in the way.
- captain Leah Williamson (25) even prevented the goal with his hand. The VAR referees Paolo Valeri (44/Italy) and Pol van Boekel (46/Netherlands) agree that handball is not punishable, referee Kateryna Monzul (42/Ukraine) therefore does not look at the situation at all.
BILD referee expert Thorsten Kinhöfer: “For me it’s a crystal clear handball. The hand is above shoulder height, for me it is incomprehensible that there was no indication from the VAR referee.
National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg (54) on ARD: “Handball. You have to see that. You don’t understand that at all. It doesn’t help to cart behind it. The people who are responsible have to think about it. But we don’t want to make that dependent on a decision.”
Before that, the evening of the final in London started very badly: Shortly before kick-off, it became clear that goalgetter Alexandra Popp (31) of all people would not be able to play in the final. She is out with muscular problems and will be replaced by Lea Schüller (24) at short notice.
Despite the Poppi shock, our women have two good chances of leading the final. First Hegering’s goal is denied by handball, then Lina Magull (27) pushes past with her pike from eleven meters (50′),
But England scores the first goal! 62 minutes: After a long ball from Walsh, precious joker Ella Toone (22) is suddenly free and overtakes goalkeeper Merle Frohms (27). 0:1 out of nowhere!
Immediately 87,192 fans at Wembley sing “It’s Coming Home” – the first England title since 1966 is very close. But our ladies are not shocked for long! Only four minutes later, Magull hits the post, Schüller’s follow-up shot only rolls into England keeper Earps’ arms.
Magull does it better in the 79th minute! After a strong combo, Waßmuth crosses flat into the penalty area from the right. Magull is one step faster than Bright and slides in.
The 3,000 German fans who traveled with us are now cheering – the deserved equalizer and the goal for extra time! Our women finally conceded the decisive goal in the 110th minute.
Kelly becomes a heroine
After an English corner kick, the ball lands at the feet of Chloe Kelly (24). The Manchester City striker sneaks the ball past Frohms and becomes a football heroine.
Kelly after the game on BBC: “Oh my god it’s amazing, thank you so much to everyone who has supported us, it’s amazing. This is what dreams are made of. As a young girl watching women’s football, it’s incredible.”
Svenja Huth (31) on ARD: “It just hurts right now. We gave everything for 120 minutes. We didn’t let ourselves fall back from a 0-1 deficit. It just hurts like a bastard to go 2-1 off the pitch just before the end.”
England coach Sarina Wiegman (52): “It’s incredible! Oh my God! We wanted so badly to win, we wanted to get better every single day. We agreed on a few things in behavior. It wasn’t just words, it was lived! We won 2-1. We are European champions. I do not have any secrets. I’m very open. I don’t think I know what’s going on.”
Even if it wasn’t enough for the pot in the end, BZ says thank you to our DFB women! With the team spirit, our team exemplified a new sense of unity and acted as a real unit during the tournament.
In the difficult times with the Ukraine war, energy crisis and inflation, you regularly put a smile on our faces with your games.
Now let’s mourn with you for a few days…
