G.For centuries men have practiced the art of pitting women against each other, in order to continue to lead.
That time is over; I am convinced that women will soon take over. It is true that a little more female solidarity would not hurt. However it is wrong to interpret any confrontation between women as a legacy of the past.
One of the consequences of the rise of women is precisely that women can have a different view of things. In short, it is not that as women they always have to get along well with each other.
The dispute between Licia Ronzulli and Mariastella Gelminifor example, it is not a “catfight”, as it has been defined; it is a political and power battle, just like the dozens that have been fought in the past between males.
In summary, Licia Ronzulli thinks that Berlusconi can only survive allied with the Lega. The League is no longer a party of the North, it is a national party, it draws votes among artisans, workers, small entrepreneurs, and in some way it can be superimposed on the original Forza Italia, in which a certain rate of populism was evident: intolerance for the “political theater”, for the establishment, for the traditional parties, in a word for the system.
Mariastella Gelmini is instead convinced that Berlusconi, which itself has become a system, will die if it renounces its moderate, liberal, European, Atlanticist roots. to bind hands and feet to a leader, Matteo Salviniwho for a long time has expressed very critical positions on the European Union, and has repeatedly shown condescension – to put it mildly – towards Vladimir Putin.
The next few months will tell who is right. The center-right will probably win the elections; but if populism prevails, it is unlikely that it will be able to govern for long a country that is part of Europe and NATO, and is sailing carelessly towards three trillion billions of public debt.
