Successful restart: Borussia Dortmund easily reached the second round of the DFB Cup with Edin Terzic making a comeback and whetted the appetite for more. In the sold-out stadium on Grünwalder Straße, the team of the old, new coach Terzic won 3-0 (3-0) at third division club 1860 Munich.
“It was a very good game from us, very dominant and mature. I liked that,” said Terzic on “ZDF”. 1860 coach Michael Köllner congratulated BVB: “Today things didn’t go so well for us. Dortmund were happy to play, but in the end it was hard bread for us.”
In the pouring rain, the young Dortmund team showed a convincing performance, especially in the first half. Donyell Malen (8th) gave the five-time cup winner an early lead.
Jude Bellingham (31st) and Karim Adeyemi (35th) subsequently increased the result. The sixties had no chance in front of 15,000 spectators after their successful start to the season in Dresden (4:3).
In his first competitive game as BVB coach since the victorious cup final in 2021, Terzic relied on three newcomers. Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck made up the central defender duo, and Adeyemi was also allowed to play from the start. Top talent Youssoufa Moukoko replaced Sebastien Haller, who was suffering from a testicular tumor.
And BVB got off to a good start. Sixty goalkeeper Marco Hiller was able to fend off Malen’s first big chance (4th), but he was beaten four minutes later. Once again it was Malen, who pushed his way into the penalty area with speed and this time pushed the ball into the goal via two inner posts from the inside left position.
BVB dominant from the start
BVB was also the clearly dominant team afterwards, with the rare Munich relief attacks Dortmund had little trouble. Instead, they kept looking for the way forward themselves, especially the lightning-fast Adeyemi and Malen on the wings caused some problems in 1860.
A nice move finally brought the expected second goal. Once again Malen played a key role when he staged Marco Reus in the penalty area.
The captain took a few more steps towards the baseline and then deliberately laid on the freestanding Bellingham, who only had to push in. Just a few minutes later, Adeyemi overcame the otherwise confident Hiller, who let the international’s low shot slip through his hands.
The second half confirmed the impressions from the first round, the tried and tested Munich team could hardly counter the playful superiority of Dortmund. However, that didn’t dampen the mood. While BVB easily brought the victory home, both fan camps celebrated their teams loudly.
