After the chaotic scenes at the men’s EURO final last year, special security measures will be in place for the women’s final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday between Germany and hosts England.
As the organizers announced, there will be a high presence of police and law enforcement officers. In addition, the Olympic Way is a no-alcohol zone and there are already preliminary checks there. In this way, people without tickets are to be filtered out well before the actual turnstiles.
“The safety of fans at Wembley Stadium is of paramount importance and we have robust security measures in place before, during and after all events at the stadium,” said the stadium operator’s spokesman.
Men: chaos at the entrance gates
Last year, the men’s European Championship final between England and Italy was overshadowed by chaotic and violent scenes at the same place, with hundreds of fans entering the arena without a valid ticket.
The women’s final between England and Germany will also be sold out with 87,000 spectators. The organizer emphasized that the number of security forces will “far” exceed the minimum requirements: “We want to ensure that everyone who visits Wembley Stadium has a safe and unforgettable experience.”
