After a tough game of poker, Robert Lewandowski left FC Bayern and joined FC Barcelona. Club legend Bastian Schweinsteiger now rated the transfer and also spoke about the ongoing rumors about Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig.
“It’s okay that he’s at Barcelona now. Bayern Munich have also had their success. Both sides have benefited,” said Schweinsteiger in an interview with the Austrian “Crown newspaper“.
According to Schweinsteiger, if FC Bayern had stuck to its original ban on transfers and Lewandowski had refused his change request, Munich would have been at a disadvantage.
Despite the addition of the Polish superstar, the 2014 world champions don’t necessarily see FC Barcelona as a European top team. “Barca are still in transition and after last season you have to wait and see,” stressed the 37-year-old: “But with Robert up front, I’m sure they’ll score a few goals.”
Laimer as a “stroke of luck” for Bayern?
In the interview, Schweinsteiger also spoke about Konrad Laimer, who according to “Bild” should be the last piece of the puzzle in FC Bayern’s transfer plans.
“I do believe that there is something to it,” said Schweinsteiger, referring to the ongoing speculation.
The former Bayern professional raved about the Austrian. “He has developed very well. He is a player who works incredibly hard. Players who run a lot and are aggressive are extremely important for a team,” he emphasized the strengths of the midfielder.
Whether FC Bayern would actually strike at Laimer this summer was difficult for Schweinsteiger to judge – precisely because of the transfer fee of 30 million euros demanded by Leipzig.
“He raised his price in Leipzig. Let’s see if Bayern Munich can sign him. He would be a godsend for any team.”
