Dodi Lukébakio is considered one of the sales candidates at Hertha BSC. Several clubs from abroad are associated with the right winger in the rumor mill. The 24-year-old confirmed in an interview with “Picture” Interest in his person, but protested that he wanted to assert himself at the capital club.
“It is true that Olympiacos wants me, there is also interest from Belgium, Spain and Italy. But my focus is 100 percent on Hertha. I feel very comfortable with the new coach and Fredi Bobic,” said Lukébakio, who came to Berlin in 2019 for 20 million euros from FC Watford (played on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf). So far he has only been able to repay the third-highest transfer fee in the club’s history to a limited extent, with 15 goals and 13 assists in 66 games.

Lukébakio spent last season on loan at VfL Wolfsburg because he was looking for “a new challenge” there. “Actually, I was supposed to go to Lille, then it was Wolfsburg,” revealed the left foot. With the Lower Saxony, however, he did not get beyond the status of a supplementary player. There should be a new start this season – at his regular club. “Of course I want to stay,” emphasized Lukébakio. “Hertha is now my home. We have great fans, a nice stadium. I have many good memories inside me that I want to relive. And the coach also wants me to stay.”
Lukébakio wants to assert himself under Black at Hertha: “Explains a lot of things to me”
After Ante Covic, Jürgen Klinsmann, Alexander Nouri, Bruno Labbadia and Pál Dárdai, Sandro Schwarz is the sixth Hertha coach for the four-time Belgian international and he also witnessed the change from Mark van Bommel to Florian Kohfeldt in Wolfsburg.
Both those responsible for the “old lady” and Lukébakio, who explained how important a good relationship with a coach is for him, hope that continuity will now return under the 43-year-old: “He shows and explains a lot of things to me, says what i can do better. For me it’s very important because I see that he trusts me and wants to improve. I want to give that back on the pitch.”
