The heir to the British throne, Prince William, congratulated England’s women’s football team after beating Sweden 4-0 on reaching the final of the European Championship on home soil.
“Congratulations to the Lionesses on reaching the Euro 2022 final on Sunday,” he wrote on Twitter after the game. “The whole country is so proud of everything you achieve. We believe in you and will support you to the end.” As usual, William signed his personal message with a W.
Even before the game in Sheffield, in which Beth Mead (34th minute), Lucy Bronze (48th), Alessia Russo (68th) and Fran Kirby (76th) scored for the Lionesses, the prince had coached Sarina Wiegman’s team much success wished. “The whole country is behind you,” wrote the 40-year-old football fan who is also the president of the English Football Association.
England, who are in the final for the first time since 2009 and have yet to win a major tournament, will meet either Germany or France at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday. The opponent will be determined on Wednesday evening in Milton Keynes.
