Ajax entertains the audience in its own stadium with a victory over Shakhtar Donetsk

Tonight Ajax won the exhibition game against Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 in its own Johan Cruijff Arena. The team from Amsterdam only picked up steam in the second half against the Ukrainian formation. Dusan Tadic, Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus were accurate for Ajax.

The duel was also a benefit match and was marked by the so-called Peace Tour, which takes Shakhtar Donetsk throughout Europe. Proceeds from ticket sales go to victims of the war. In addition, free tickets were provided to Ukrainian refugees. The visitors also saw only Ukrainians on the field, because the always so characteristic Brazilian enclave of Shakhtar has left because of the war.

Whirling solo

At Ajax, Remko Pasveer, Jurriën Timber and Antony made their first minutes of this preparation. The team from Amsterdam had a number of great opportunities in the first half hour, but both Edson Álvarez and Steven Berghuis didn’t shoot sharp. After Shakhtar survived the storm, it took the lead itself. With a whirling solo, Mykhaylo Mudryk tricked both Devyne Rensch and Remko Pasveer and made the 1-0.

Just before the end of the first half, Ajax came alongside. Steven Bergwijn gave in, Antony brought the ball to Tadic with his head and scored that ass from close range. The captain of Ajax seemed to score from an offside position, but due to the absence of the VAR, the equalizer remained.

Wrong leg

After the break Ajax came out of the dressing room strong and Timber headed the post from a corner. Antony also showed himself with a well placed shot that went just close. In the end it was Berghuis who signed for the 2-1 in the 73rd minute. The long-range shot of the Orange international was changed direction, causing goalkeeper Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov to be wrong.

In the final phase, the public in Amsterdam could still see the debut of Francisco Conceicao. The talent that came over from Porto was allowed to participate in the last fifteen minutes with the team of trainer Alfred Schreuder. However, it was another substitution at Ajax that ensured the final highlight of the match. Kudus hit the ball from sixteen meters after a nice one-two into the ropes for the 3-1 final score.

The victory of Ajax is a nice boost for the match for the Johan Cruijff Scale. On Saturday Ajax will play against PSV in its own stadium for the first prize of the season.

Ajax setup: feather; Rensch (Kudus/66), Timber (Schuurs/66), Blind, Wijndal (Baas/76); Álvarez, Berghuis (Taylor/80), Klaassen (Conceição/76); Bergwijn (Fitz-Jim/66), Tadic, Antony (Brobbey/76)
