Report: Nottingham and VfB Stuttgart agree on Mangala fee

4. Entry from the Bundesliga

Nottingham Forest’s Bundesliga shopping spree continues – next stop: Orel Mangala (24). As “Sky sports” and “The AthleticAccording to unanimous reports, the newly promoted Premier League and VfB Stuttgart have reached a fundamental agreement. Accordingly, VfB sports director Sven Mislintat was successful with his request, because Forest is said to have improved the offer for the defensive midfielder from originally 11 million to 15 million euros.

This sum would screw up the transfer expenses of the traditional club, which is playing first-class again after 23 years of abstinence, to around 97 million euros – including the Mangala deal, 54 million euros of which flow towards the Bundesliga. Coach Steve Cooper’s squad had previously been strengthened with the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi (24, Union), Moussa Niakhaté (26, Mainz) and Omar Richards (24). The best-known newcomer is Jesse Lingard (29), who came on a free transfer from Manchester United.

VfB took Mangala from RSC Anderlecht for EUR 1.8 million in 2017 after BVB let an option to buy the former loan player expire. The Belgian then went on loan to HSV and made a total of 109 appearances for the Swabians, where his contract runs until 2024.

Thanks to the rumored income of EUR 15 million, VfB’s transfer balance would improve from EUR -6.4 million to EUR +8.6 million – the club only received more money for four players. As of today, after Mangala’s departure, defensive midfield would consist of captain Wataru Endo (29), Atakan Karazor (25), Clinton Mola (21) and Naouirou Ahamada (20).
