Club Brugge – Genk first topper on first match day

Club Brugge receives in the Jan Breydel Stadium Racing Genk. Blauw-Zwart can (for now) still count on attackers Noa Lang and Charles De Ketelaere. They may still leave next month, although an extended stay is not excluded either. In the meantime, newcomers Ferran Jutgla, Cyle Larin, Bjorn Meijer and Casper Nielsen can be fitted in.

Club won the Supercup last week. Hoefkens couldn’t start much better as the Blue-Black trainer. But despite the victory in the Supercup, coach Carl Hoekens certainly sees one big point: “I think that was very clear during that game. The first 35 minutes were good with the football we want to bring. Then you notice that it will be difficult. on a physical level, so that’s what we’re going to focus on now.”

With Genk, Club immediately gets a visit from another top club. Taking the three points at home is therefore not easy. “Last year Genk was a team with a lot of qualities anyway, this year is no different. They have few outgoing transfers, even their golden shoe is still around. They have a lot of quality. I also rate Wouter very highly as a coach. It’s a great challenge for us as the first game of the season.”

Other West Flemish teams

Of Kortrijk-Leuven and Zulte Waregem-Seraing there will be two matches on Saturday between teams looking down with a slanted eye. Zulte Waregem and Seraing in particular will have a difficult season with three failures at the end of the competition.

Anderlecht receives Sunday KV Ostend. With Mazzu as coach and new attackers Sebastiano Esposito and Fabio Silva, the Purple & White are entering a new era. The reinstated Adrien Trebel seems to be the surprising replacement in midfield for Josh Cullen, who went to Burnley with Vincent Kompany.

PhD student Westerlo and Cercle Bruges close the first day of play. The champion from 1B wants to continue surfing on the winning momentum of last season. Cercle hopes for a quiet season without relegation worries.
