Sandhäuser Patzer leads to 1:0

The game in Darmstadt also began with a minute’s silence for the late DFB honorary captain Uwe Seeler. After this goose bumps moment, the game immediately had action to offer. The first scenes belonged to SV Darmstadt: Phillip Tietz got a good nine meters in front of the goal after about six minutes, but nodded the ball just wide of the box.

Less than three minutes later, however, the time had come: Braydon Manu coldly used a Sandhaus defensive error: Diekmeier and Trybull could not come to an agreement after a harmless header from “Lilien” – Manu thanked him, took the ball with him and thundered it from about eight meters on the top right into the corner.

Compensation out of nothing

Darmstadt continued to dominate the game with their attacking style of play, but the score was 1-1 at half-time. Out of the blue, the ball tumbled happily at Zhirov’s feet. The Sandhäuser defender, who had moved up, took the chance and pushed in precisely with his inside instep.

Although Darmstadt quickly recovered from this shock, they were no longer able to express their dominance in terms of scoring chances before the break. In fact, Bachmann challenged Darmstadt’s keeper Marcel Schuhen twice more (36′, 39′).

Mehlem brings Darmstadt back to the front

The second half started out a little less turbulent than the first. In the 55th minute, Mehlem and Manu then played into the opposing penalty area with a remarkable one-two. From a good seven meters, the ten circled the ball into the lower left corner.

Alois Schwarz tried to equalize with a four-man substitution in the last quarter of an hour – Esswein, Kutucu, Ritzmaier and newcomer Ochs both replaced Kinsombis, Pulkrab and Trybull. His team built up a lot of pressure, but couldn’t put the ball in the Lilies’ goal.

SV Sandhausen expects the previously unbeaten Fortuna from Düsseldorf on the 3rd matchday on Friday (05.08.2022), Darmstadt has to play in Braunschweig on Sunday.
