Most locations in our country will open again on Wednesday 26 January under certain conditions. In addition to shops, education, sports clubs, the practice of art and culture and contact professions such as hairdressers, the catering industry, cinemas, theatres, museums, concert halls, zoos and amusement parks will also open their doors from tomorrow. In addition, sports competitions outside their own club are allowed again and the public is welcome at all sports competitions. There is also a relaxation of the quarantine advice for children up to 18 years old.

The number of infections is high, many people are in isolation or quarantine at home. The number of corona patients is expected to increase as a result of these relaxations. Nevertheless, the government has decided that, despite the risks and uncertainties, this major step can be taken responsibly. Because living even longer with measures that limit our daily lives also damages our health and society.

On Tuesday 8 March, the cabinet will again decide whether more is possible.

General measures and advice

  • There is a general opening time for all locations from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Keep 1.5 meters away everywhere.

  • For sports, events, art and culture, a maximum of 1,250 people per room applies.
  • Events without a fixed seat, such as festivals, are not yet allowed.
  • Large events (with more than 1,250 visitors) with fixed seats, are only allowed outside.

Quarantine

The quarantine advice is changing.

You no longer have to quarantine after contact with a positive tested person like you

AND:

  • are a child or pupil who attends childcare, primary education or secondary education; OR
  • are an MBO or higher education student under the age of 18; OR
  • have agreed with your employer that you are an employee in an essential business process and that you meet the conditions OR
  • have had a booster shot for more than a week OR
  • have tested positive less than 8 weeks ago.

The following applies to everyone with complaints:

In all situations, the advice applies to avoid contact with the elderly and vulnerable until 10 days after the last contact with someone with corona.

Look for the current quarantine rules in the Quarantine Check. In connection with the time required for the elaboration of the policy and its implementation, the information provided by the RIVM and the GGD may deviate from this.

further together

After almost 2 years of experience with the corona approach, we have learned how difficult it is to deal with measures that limit our daily lives. And with relaxation. Nobody wants the reopening to be reversed in a few weeks. That is why we must continue to pay attention and help each other in complying with the general measures and advice that still apply. Because only in this way can we move forward together.

Visual explanation by Minister Kuipers

During the press conference, Minister Kuipers explained with various images about

  • the effect of the high number of people in isolation on society and
  • that far fewer people end up in hospital after vaccination, and certainly after a booster vaccination.
