The seventh day of the World Athletics Championships begins in Eugene with the men’s javelin qualifying.
In qualifying group A, which starts at 3:05 a.m. Finnish time, they are chasing a place in the final Lassi Etelätalo and Toni Keränen. This season, he has thrown the javelin to 89.83 meters Oliver Helander gets off in the second qualifying group at 4:35.
The qualification has the same ingredients of a scandal as a year ago at the Tokyo Olympics. There is only a 10 millimeter platform at the throwing site, the surface of which was already worn before the qualification. It was difficult for Keränen to get a grip on the platform.
Olympic champion in Tokyo Keshorn Walcott and world champion Anderson Peters missed the qualification largely due to platform problems. It remains to be seen how much Eugene’s circumstances will cause gray hairs.
At the very beginning of the seventh day of the race, the women’s 800 meter heats were also run, in which Finland was represented Eveliina Määttänen. The 26-year-old runner was sixth in his heat, but the time was not enough for the next place.
The night culminates in the women’s and men’s 200m finals.
