The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) rejected the candidacy of the head of the Russian delegation and Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy for the position of vice-president of the organization from Russia. This is mentioned on site PACE.

The Assembly previously decided to hold a secret ballot on this issue; during the second round, Tolstoy did not receive the support of an absolute majority of the PACE member countries. “Thus, the seat of the Russian Federation remains vacant until the candidate represented by the Russian national delegation receives the required majority of votes,” the message says.

At the same time, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin declaredthat Tolstoy’s candidacy was approved. “An attempt to organize an urgent debate in PACE and adopt a resolution on the Navalny case failed,” he said. This is stated on the English version of the website of the lower house of parliament. On the Russian-language version of the resource, there are no such words by Volodin.

Representative of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko in Telegram declaredthat “together with my colleagues” prevented the election of Tolstoy. According to him, 79 delegations voted for the candidacy of the Russian candidate, 106 voted against.
