Sturm presents Stanley Cup in Augsburg

After winning the NHL championship, the Augsburg ice hockey pro Nico Sturm will receive a fitting welcome in his hometown. The 27-year-old brings the Stanley Cup, which he won with the Colorado Avalanche, to the Fugger city on Saturday and also signs the city’s golden book.

“This day will definitely be a very special one for me and my family. I’m from Augsburg and I can’t wait to bring the Stanley Cup home. I’m particularly excited to see the bright eyes of the youngsters,” said Sturm , who became the fifth German to win the title in the North American professional league.

The attacker had switched from the Minnesota Wild to the Denver franchise during the current NHL season, and he came up with an assist in the finals series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. For the new season, Sturm, who started his career at the Augsburg Ice Skating Club, is moving to the San Jose Sharks.
