NATO member states already gave the green light for Finland and Sweden to join the alliance at the Madrid summit at the end of June. The two northern European countries are historically militarily neutral, but are forced towards the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Each NATO member state has yet to ratify the accession of Sweden and Finland. In our country, the federal council of ministers gave the green light earlier this month, the House Committee on Foreign Relations has now followed suit. The plenary meeting of the House has yet to pronounce itself.
