It glittered and sparkled on the catwalk as the fashion house Christian Dior opened the haute couture shows in Paris on Monday afternoon with its spring-summer 2022 collection. The craft of embroidery was to play the leading role.
On display were 64 artistic individual pieces that had been handcrafted in hundreds of hours. The very first look indicated the theme of the show: an asymmetrical body embroidered all over with glittering crystal pins. In addition, the model wore tights and pumps with so-called kitten heels – they resemble a small funnel, also studded with sparkling stones.
What was particularly striking about the creations: the restrained color palette, which consisted exclusively of black, gray and beige tones. The guests, including model and actress Cara Delevingne, looked all the more at the sparkling embroidery.
To show the close connection between arts and crafts, Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri had the catwalk decorated with 22 embroidered tapestries by artist couple Madhvi & Manu Parekh, made in collaboration with the Chanakya School of Crafts. The couple’s work can be seen in the garden of Paris’ famous Musée Rodin during Haute Couture week. (DPO)
