Olympique Lyon apparently has to prepare for the departure of its most valuable professional, Lucas Paquetá (24). As reported by “L’Équipe”, the Brazilian, whose market value is 35 million euros, approached the management of the French club with a desire to change. OL would let the attacking midfielder go, they say, but only for a reasonable fee.
In the TM rumor mill, Newcastle United is traded as a possible buyer. The “Magpies” are said to have bid for Paquetá in the last transfer period, but failed with an offer of 40 million euros at OL. The Times recently reported that Newcastle are planning to pay a club-record fee for the attacking power. In the past transfer period, Paquetá’s ex-teammate Bruno Guimarães (24) became the Englishman’s most expensive purchase with his more than 42 million euro transfer from OL to Newcastle. Due to possible bonuses, the transfer fee could rise to over EUR 50 million.
A sale of Paquetá of a similar magnitude would give Olympique Lyon a whopping transfer plus. The national player, whose contract with OL is valid until 2025, came from AC Milan in 2020 for 20 million euros. Since then he has made 77 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 13 assists. “There are offers for him,” confirmed orienteering president Jean-Michael Aulas. “There are some players who can feel completely fulfilled in the project and others who don’t,” he said.
