Striker Juan José Perea is moving from Greek first division club PAS Giannina to VfB Stuttgart, the club has confirmed. The 22-year-old Colombian is VfB’s first “real” signing for the new season.

Last season, the 22-year-old made 33 competitive appearances for Giannina, scoring ten goals and providing four assists. Juan José Perea came to Europe from Colombia as a youth player, where he trained with FC Porto, among others. The Colombian has signed a contract with VfB until June 30, 2026. Before moving to PAS Giannina, he was a professional player for Volos NPS and Panathinaikos in Greece.

Sven Mislintat on Perea: “Brings a lot of speed”

VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat said of the signing: “Juan José Perea brings a lot of speed and a great offensive drive to our game. He can act at speed on the wings as well as play in the center of the attack.” Despite his young age, he also brings a certain amount of experience with more than 80 professional games in Europe.

First signing of VfB Stuttgart

Perea is the first “real” newcomer to VfB Stuttgart. So far, the Swabians have only signed the previous loan players Konstatinos Mavropanos and Hiroki Ito, and there are also substitutes from their own youth, such as the top scorer in the U19 Bundesliga South/Southwest, Thomas Kastanaras.

Perea travels to the VfB training camp on Saturday

VfB need action in attack after Omar Marmoush’s loan ended and the Egyptian returned to VfL Wolfsburg. In addition, goalscorer Sasa Kalajdzic is still expected to leave. The 1.81 meter tall Perea is already going to the one-week training camp in Weiler-Simmerberg in the Allgäu on Saturday. From there, the team will immediately travel to Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance, where they will play a friendly against Swiss champions FC Zurich on Saturday evening (5:30 p.m.).
