Since September 2004, the TH Lübeck and the East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) jointly conducted the English-language courses in Environmental Engineering and Information Technology in Shanghai. Now the 15th year was said goodbye on Tuesday, July 5th.
“I have no regrets about my time here in Lübeck. I have worked hard and honestly to do everything right and to gain so much,” says Chenlin Gao. She is one of 47 Chinese students who will be doing theirs this year Bachelor double degree at the TH Lübeck. They all have a long way behind them: the students had to complete the first of three semesters at the TH Lübeck online in Shanghai due to the corona pandemic. In the second half of 2021 they were then able to board a plane to Germany to start a new phase of life in Lübeck in the winter semester 21/22.
Prof. Frank Schwartze, Vice President for Research and International Affairs, gave the opening speech and moderated the graduation ceremony. The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Stephan Klein, presented the environmental engineers with their German-Chinese double degree. Dean Prof. Andreas Schäfer took on the task for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Happy about the result of her studies in Lübeck, Chenlin Gao says: “I have worked hard and honestly to do everything right and gain so much. (…) During this period, I have seen the respect for different cultures, the care and the quality professors give to us as students and the respect for every choice we did.” The IT graduate Rui Song adds: “(…) In any case, the time we spent here in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck will be one of the most interesting experiences for us. Many thanks for everything! For the help of our professors, teachers, my friends. Thank you all!”
Chenlin Gao is certain: “I have traveled to so many cities in Europe this year, but in the end, I think Lübeck is my favorite place with its beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. Still it is the peoples kindness that makes this city so beautiful and touching. (…) In the end I wish you all the best in the future and to be brave enough to follow your passions and live the life you love.”
