Semifinalist | Maria husband about daughter: “The human counts”

Wimbledon surprise Tatjana Maria and her husband Charles-Edouard want to set an example for their eight-year-old daughter for a possible career as a tennis player.

“We like a family atmosphere, that’s important to us when we work with people. We want to show Charlotte that what counts is human,” said Frenchman Charles-Edouard Maria of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. “A lot of people move from here to there and there when they’re playing on tour. We want that balance to be right as she grows up and develops as a player.”

For the first time in her career, 34-year-old Tatjana Maria is in the semi-finals of the grass classic and meets world number two Ons Jabeur from Tunisia. Charlotte, the older of two daughters, also plays tennis. In Wimbledon, the eight-year-old usually trains at half past eight in the morning. She is under contract with a sporting goods manufacturer who sponsors her with tennis clothing. “She’s really talented,” said Charles-Edouard Maria, who also coaches Tatjana Maria.
