The Finnish restaurant world was recognized in the Michelin guide to the Nordic countries published today.

Restaurant Kaskis received a Michelin star. This restaurant in Turku, founded in 2014, received Finland’s first Michelin star awarded outside of Helsinki.

– Getting a star means everything to us, it’s more than important, one of Kaskis’ entrepreneurs commented at the event right after the star was awarded.

The stars were being received by the founders of Kaskinen Erik Mansikka and Simo Raisio. Kaskis sommelier Christina Haukka received the Michelin sommelier award at the same event.

From one to two stars

The classic Helsinki restaurant Palace rose from a one Michelin star restaurant to a two star restaurant.

Ravintola Palace received Finland’s first Michelin star in 1987.

The Michelin guide says that one of the reasons for Palace’s second star is that “the chefs bring the dishes to the table themselves and finish them off, which brings a new wonderful level to dining”.

Environment and gastronomy

The organic restaurant Natura located in Punavuori was awarded the green star, which honors restaurants for their special focus on gastronomy that takes the environment into account.

In total, 11 new restaurants in the Nordic countries received one Michelin star and two new restaurants rose from one star to two star restaurants.
