World number one woman Iga Swiatek unexpectedly fell at Wimbledon to a Frenchman For Alizé Cornet directly in two installments.
Swiatek lost no less than five of his service rounds to Cornet, who is ranked 37th in the world. The sets were recorded in favor of the Frenchman 6–4 and 6–2.
Poland’s Swiatek was ranked number one in women’s singles at Wimbledon. The loss ended 21-year-old Swiatek’s 37-game winning streak.
The last time Swiatek lost the match was last February to the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko in Dubai.
Cornet did not surprise for the first time in his career at Wimbledon, as he defeated the big favorite in 2014 Serena Williams in the third round.
The women’s singles tournament has been a surprise this year, as only the top ten made it to the fourth round Ons Jabeur and Paula Badosa.
