The statistical office reports the figures using the European harmonized method, which was created to enable a good comparison of inflation data from different European countries.
Statistics Netherlands will later publish the monthly inflation figure according to its own calculation method. This records, among other things, the costs for housing, such as rents. The European method does not take this into account. In May, this inflation was 8.8 percent compared to a year earlier, according to Statistics Netherlands.
