Maarten van Rossem is very disappointed that he has revealed the gender of the upcoming Smartest Man winner. In his own words, he did not know that during his unveiling on air used to be.
It is an unbelievable downer for the entire team of De Slimste Mens: jury member Maarten van Rossem accidentally revealed the gender of the winner of the upcoming season. We therefore already know in advance that a large part of the candidates will not make it to the finish line anyway and that is a shame for the loyal viewer.
Off the record
Maarten revealed it during a live interview in Onze Man In Deventer, the radio program of Özcan Akyol. He was a guest there in the night from Saturday to Sunday. “A surprise winner?” asked the host. And then Maarten slipped up.
How could this have gone wrong? Telegraaf journalist Jordi Versteegden has contacted Maarten, he tells† “He says, ‘I don’t even call it a blunder’ because what happened: He had the feeling that the program was already over, so he thought he off the record was still talking to Eus.”

Jordi has listened to the fragment again. “Eus also said: ‘Is it really that convenient? Because you are now revealing the gender.’ Maarten then said: ‘John, but you are not going to step up to the higher lords, are you? It stays between you and me.’”
He continues: “Maarten was like: this has never been broadcast, but it was. He finds that difficult. He says: ‘It is especially regrettable.’”
KRO-NCRV angry
Maarten’s slip was quickly cut from the broadcast afterwards, so it can no longer be listened to. However, it was leaked via Radio 10 and thanks to De Telegraaf it became national news. Jordi: “The KRO-NCRV called early in the morning to the editors of De Telegraaf: ‘Can it please be offline?’”
It’s all very unfortunate, Jordi thinks. “Maarten thinks it’s an unfortunate misunderstanding and I also think it’s a shame that I now know.”
