Farewell to Man City: Fernandinho back at Athletico Paranaense

Move to home fixed

“I will go back to Brazil for sure. I decided that together with my family, it’s the most important thing for me,” Fernandinho (37) announced his departure from Manchester City in April. Now the time has come. The veteran moves to his former club Athletico Paranaense on a free transfer and has a contract until the end of 2024.

Fernandinho is available for free as his working paper with the Citizens expires. The right-footed player has made a total of 383 appearances for the top English club since his €40m move from Shakthar Donetsk in 2013, in which he contributed 26 goals and 33 assists. In the past season, the Brazilian mostly oscillated between the starting XI and the bench and was used in 33 games (five goals). “I want to play,” he justified the decision to leave Manchester.
