Toyota’s Kalle Rovanperä brilliantly set a challenging Saturday’s driving day for the Kenya World Rally Championship.

In addition to challenging conditions Kalle Rovanperä also suffered from a small flu. Still, the Finnish star cannoned the pieces through at a tremendous pace. Rovanperä’s leading position before the last six special stages on Sunday is 40.3 seconds before the teammate Elfyn Evansia.

– Nothing is the best possible. I have felt really tired today. I don’t know why it comes from, but it feels like there is no energy at all. Now it’s a little better, Rovanperä told Iltalehti during Saturday night’s service in Naivasha.

– Especially the long stretch of the afternoon felt really heavy when the energy levels were low. Luckily we got to the finish of the day.

Although Rovanperä’s lead looks plush, the Kenya World Rally Championship has proven that nothing is certain until the goal is achieved.

– As we have seen, no difference is enough. There is still a long day to come. You just have to control yourself and focus on driving properly, Rovanperä said.

– Tomorrow is a longer Sunday than normal, so you just have to stay in good rhythm. Of course, victory is the goal.

Rovanperä is by no means forced to win in Kenya, as the worst threaters in the World Series, Hyundai Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak suspended on Saturday.

– Whenever you know that the conditions are good, you can push a little. The guys behind are definitely still going to attack, so no easy is promised. Differences come easily if you take a lot of risks. However, it is also necessary to drive between very careful, Toyota driver summed up.
