After long deliberation, Wim Jonk extends contract for only one year at FC Volendam

Two days before the first training, Wim Jonk has finally signed a new contract with FC Volendam. The trainer of the brand new premier divisionist has signed a contract until the summer of 2023 with an option for a second season.

Jonk had already indicated several times that he wanted to stay. At the end of April, for example, after the championship match against FC Den Bosch, he said when promotion was enforced: “That will be fine. If you say A, B usually follows.” Nevertheless, it took a very long time before white smoke was visible in Volendam.

“Our first goal has been achieved with the promotion to the Eredivisie, but we are not there yet,” Jonk responds to the club website. “The Eredivisie will not only demand a lot more from our players and staff, the club as a whole can and must take many steps before our base is strong enough. That is also logical with a multi-year plan. Now a great new challenge awaits us and that I look forward to.”

FC VOLENDAM TRAINER WIM JONK

“After intensive discussions about the future of FC Volendam, I am pleased that we can continue the course we started three years ago,” explains technical affairs board member Hans Bond. “The approach remains to continue together for as long as possible, but it is healthy for both parties to continue to evaluate each other. The club is in development, the steps towards an even more professional environment have already been taken. We have to continue the upward trend in order to grow into a stable Eredivisie club. I am very much looking forward to that and have every confidence in it.”

First workout

Monday is the first training and Jonk will start preparing for the new season with his selection. Practice matches are scheduled against the amateurs of De Rijp (July 8), KRC Genk (July 9), NAC Breda (July 15) and AEK Athens (July 22). The competition starts on August 7 with the away match against FC Groningen.
