Dominik Oswald wins German championship title in cycling trials

Status: 06/25/2022 12:39 p.m

Dominik Oswald lived up to his role as favorite and won the title in the bike trial on Saturday morning. Nina Reichenbach dominated the women.

It was already clear before the final competition of the five best starters that the German championship title in the bike trial would only go to Dominik Oswald. The 2019 world champion is called “King of the Trials” in Germany – he had become German champion six times before Berlin in the past few years.

And so the 25-year-old also triumphed in the 2022 edition. In the final evaluation he had 280 points in the shadow of the huge television tower. Second-placed Jonas Friedrich scored 260 points, while third-placed Leon Müller collected 160 points.

In an interview, Dominik Oswald talks about his trial victory at the 2022 finals.

Overcoming obstacles without making mistakes is the motto

In the trial, the bike is ridden over obstacles without putting your foot on the ground. In the competition, the aim is to complete defined sections in two minutes without making any mistakes. The drivers each receive ten points for overcoming an obstacle and the one with the most points wins.

World Cup as the highlight of the year

For Oswald and his colleagues, the “Finals” are something like the start of an intense summer of competition. A World Cup is scheduled for August, followed by the highlight of the year with the World Championships in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of October. In 2019, Oswald has already won the rainbow jersey in China. Also this year he sees himself able to fight for the medals. “I’m in good shape again,” he says after not being able to build on the success of 2019 at the World Cup in 2021.

Can’t beat Nina Reichenbach in the women’s category

As expected, Nina Reichenbach then won the championship title in the women’s competition. The only serious competitor of the four-time world champion was Larena Hees, who was able to stay on her heels at least to some extent. Behind the two dominating drivers there was already a considerable gap to the other competitors, who currently consist of young drivers.
