Having a holiday feeling all year round, how nice is that. Ad from Ulicoten knows what that is like and that is all because of his house on the Dorpsstraat in Ulicoten. “Once you’re there, you’ll never have to go on vacation again.”

The swimming pool and sauna give you the impression that you are no longer in your own country. But if that hasn’t convinced you yet, there’s the bath house designed by Ad himself. “Once you’re there, you’ll never have to go on holiday again,” says the current owner, Ad.

The building in which the house is located has often been something different. There was only one thing that was always the same, or actually one person: Ad. “This used to be a dairy factory. Then shops came in. They just didn’t run very well, because it is such a small village.”

“I decided to turn it into holiday homes. I wanted something different from others. There are many holiday homes in the Netherlands, but not like this one.”

The neighbor’s house was also once a holiday home. “I had the same idea there, but with an indoor pool. They have put a floor over it and now actually live in the swimming pool. When you’re in it, you can still see the pool elevation.” A fun way to break the ice with your new neighbors.

When Ad came to live in his house, he hardly changed anything in order to maintain the holiday feeling. “I only adapted the kitchen and placed a roof in the garden. Other than that, I haven’t changed anything.”

A large part of the Netherlands will be very happy with Ad. “The water in my pool is always around 27 degrees. Yet my house is almost completely energy neutral. This is partly due to the solar panels on the roof.”

Energy neutral and have the feeling that you are on holiday all year round. Then why would you leave? “I’m getting too old. If something happens to me tomorrow, no one will know the technical story surrounding the swimming pool, for example. You have to have someone who wants to learn that. If you don’t find it, stop it.”
