ING customers look back on moving weeks and months. Changes to the TAN procedure, the introduction and abolition of negative interest rates are just some of the adjustments that the bank has recently made. Now there is another change. It concerns the login.
In order to better protect access to the account, ING is introducing so-called two-factor authentication, 2FA for short, for all customers. The procedure replaces the ING DiBa Key, the mTAN procedure and the iTAN list and requires approval for each login. This is done via a new app that will be mandatory for all ING customers.
New login at ING
If you want to log into your ING online account in the future, you will need the “Banking to go” app or the ING photoTAN generator. ING has been offering the app to customers for a long time. The download is for both Android as well as iOS for free. Anyone who is already using the ING app or the photoTAN procedure does not have to do anything else when logging in. However, the bank may ask customers to enter their cell phone number in the user account for security purposes. It uses the ING together with the address or the e-mail, for example, to send one-time passwords to help with problems.
Since ING is completely discontinuing the mTAN procedure, it will soon no longer be possible to use it for logging in or releasing transfers. Users must therefore opt for the “Banking to go” app or the ING photoTAN generator.

What actually is a photoTAN generator?
In contrast to the app, the photoTAN generator requires the purchase of a separate device. Corresponding models are available both in the ING shop and at other online retailers. With prices between 20 and 40 euros, however, they are not exactly cheap. The functionality is the same for all devices: It scans a color graphic from the screen and thus generates a 7-digit TAN that customers can enter in online banking at ING to log in or authorize transfers.
