Number of registered corona cases continues to rise

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported on Tuesday how many positive results from corona tests it registered last week. The number of people found to be infected after a corona test at the GGD has increased again in recent weeks after months of decline.

In the past six days, almost 22,000 positive test results were received by RIVM. That is already about 6000 cases more than in the seven days before. When the last week’s figures were published, RIVM stated that the increase in the number of positive test results is probably the start of a new corona wave.

Anyone who has corona complaints or has a positive self-test does not necessarily have to go to the GGD to have a possible infection confirmed. The number of registered positive test results does not say everything about the spread of the virus. RIVM also reports new results from sewage water measurements on Tuesday. Last week, the institute reported that the number of virus particles found in sewage water has also been increasing for several weeks. The number of corona patients in hospitals is also increasing.
