Former soccer star Samuel Eto’o has been sentenced to 22 months in prison by a Barcelona court on four counts of tax evasion.
Because the 41-year-old Cameroonian pleaded guilty and agreed to pay a fine, and the sentence is less than two years, he can avoid prison.
According to the indictment, Eto’o withheld around four million euros in taxes from the Spanish tax authorities between 2006 and 2009. At that time he played for FC Barcelona, with whom he won the Champions League twice.
