Borussia Dortmund’s search for a suitable replacement for top scorer Erling Haaland (21, to Manchester City) is apparently moving towards the home stretch. As the “Picture” as well as the “Telegraph” and “Voetbal International” reported unanimously, the black and yellow have intensified their efforts to Sébastien Haller. Negotiations with his employer Ajax Amsterdam are currently about the transfer. Advantageous for Borussia: Haller absolutely wants to switch to Dortmund and would also forgo even more lucrative opportunities from the Premier League. The 27-year-old, in turn, is the number one transfer target for the Westphalians.
Goals & highlights from Ajax striker Sébastien Haller
According to the reports, BVB is offering 33 million plus bonus payments for Haller’s services. The reports differ slightly in their details. The “Bild” assumes an Ajax price tag “well over 38 million euros plus bonuses”, so a breakthrough could take a while. According to the “Telegraaf”, it is actually impossible for Ajax to refuse such an offer, despite the fact that the reaction is still open. And according to “VI”, BVB will most likely be Haller’s new club.

In mid-May, the “Spiegel” wrote for the first time that Haller was the preferred solution for those responsible for the storm center in Dortmund. The attacker is already familiar with the Bundesliga from two years at Eintracht Frankfurt, for which he scored 24 goals in 60 games in the German top flight between 2017 and 2019 before moving on to West Ham United for a whopping €50m. Haller was unable to fully gain a foothold in the Premier League, which is why he switched to Ajax in January 2021 for EUR 22.5 million – the Eredivisie club thus beckons a transfer plus.

BVB expenditure at 88 million plus x? Ajax threatens next loss
So far, BVB has signed Karim Adeyemi, Nico Schlotterbeck, Salih Özcan, Niklas Süle, Marcel Lotka and Alexander Meyer for a total of EUR 55 million. Haller would increase Black and Yellow’s expenses to at least 88 million euros and replace Adeyemi as the most expensive summer signing. In addition, he would be the second most expensive purchase in the club’s history – behind leader Ousmane Dembélé. On the income side, there are currently 61.5 million euros. Another topic in Dortmund is reportedly Hoffenheim’s left-back David Raum (24).
After Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui (both to FC Bayern), Ajax would lose the third top performer within a very short time – coach Erik ten Hag is also going to Manchester United.
