We noticed that everyone was looking forward to it again: after two years of not being able to hold the election, there was great enthusiasm among brewers to participate again: exactly 50 beers were submitted. Never before have there been so many.

More prices than before
New this edition is the introduction of the category Alcohol-free beer† Because that is an increasingly serious option for beer lovers, we wanted to know how the North Holland brewers are doing in that area. The number of entries was low, so this year we will suffice with a certificate for the highest-rated beer, but hopefully next year it will be a full-fledged category next to The Best Light Beer and The Best Heavy Beer†
Another added price is the one for NH’s most sustainable beer. This prize was created by students of the Business Studies program at Inholland University of Applied Sciences, Alkmaar location. They looked at which of the submitted beers communicated best about the sustainability of the beer. For this purpose, we looked at what is communicated about sustainability on the can or bottle. The brewer that did it best in their eyes is: Brouwerij Troost (entries Virgin IPA Organic and New England Organic)

The jury is not generous with high ratings this year. That does not alter the fact that there are also gems among the entries. Those are the proud winners in the categories The Best Non-Alcoholic Beer, The Best Light Beer and The Best Heavy Beer.

Best Heavy Beer of North Holland 2022 (alcohol percentage 7% and higher)
- 1 Spelled Malt – Brewery De Moerspanner (Alkmaar)
- 2 Nijenburg Grand Cru – Heyloo Brewery (Heiloo)
- 3 Tripel – Zeeburg Brewery (Amsterdam)
In addition to the jury election, there is also the public election. One of them stands head and shoulders above the rest this year. Almost a third of all votes cast goes to a young ambitious brewery in Amsterdam-North. But also numbers two and three have clearly more votes than the other beers.
