Ireland national goalkeeper
Southampton FC sign Gavin Bazunu from Manchester City U23. The 20-year-old goalkeeper top talent is reportedly moving to the club of coach Ralph Hasenhüttl for a fee of 12 million pounds, around 14 million euros. According to “The Athletic”, the transfer fee can increase to a total volume of the equivalent of 17.5 million euros with bonuses, and various reports also report a buyback option for Man City and a resale participation of 20 percent.
With the basic fee alone, Bazunu becomes the most expensive new goalkeeper in the history of the “Saints”, with which he not only inherits Fraser Forster (34), who has switched to Tottenham, but also displaces him in the record statistics. As of now, the Dublin-born Irishman is the only keeper in the Southampton squad for the coming season. Bazunu’s contract runs until 2027.

Last season, Bazunu was on loan at English third-tier side Portsmouth FC and saved 16 times in 44 league games. He was also voted Player of the Season by fans and teammates in Pompey. He has already played ten international matches for the Irish national team and kept a clean sheet against Portugal, among others.
The custodian joined the Skyblues youth team from Shamrock Rovers in February 2019 for a fee of €500,000 after making his first-team debut at his old club in 2018 aged 16 years, three months and 20 days . As part of the last transfer market update, Bazunu was able to increase its market value by more than eight times to currently 5 million euros.
