Awesome start to the new season! Union Berlin and Hertha BSC meet directly at the start of the league.
Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt and champions FC Bayern Munich open the 60th season of the Bundesliga.
The first game of the 2022/2023 season, which will be interrupted for two months by the World Cup in Qatar, will take place on August 5 (8:30 p.m. Sat.1 and DAZN) in Frankfurt. This was confirmed by the German Football League (DFL) with the publication of the match schedule on Friday in Frankfurt/Main.
Traditionally, the defending champion is allowed to play the first game. The first day of the game offers two more hits with the duel between Champions League participants Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen and the derby between 1. FC Union Berlin and Hertha BSC. Second division champions FC Schalke 04 will start at 1. FC Köln.
Hertha expects the Frankfurt team to play their first home game of the season on Matchday 2, after which other top teams will come to the Olympic Stadium in the form of BVB and Leverkusen.
Union has to go to Mainz after the derby, the next opponents in the Alte Försterei are called RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich!
Due to the World Cup (November 21 to December 18), the first half of the Bundesliga season will be paused after matchday 15. After the winter break, it will continue on January 20, 2023. The season ends on 27./28. May. The new round in the 2nd league starts on July 15 (8:30 p.m.) with the game between newly promoted 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Hannover 96.
