FC Groningen and FC Emmen will cross swords next season in October and February. This is apparent from the draft program for the Eredivisie, which the KNVB released on Wednesday morning.
It will be a special season with an extra long winter break from mid-November to early January in connection with the World Cup in Qatar. On Tuesday it was already announced that FC Emmen will open the competition in Eindhoven with the away match against PSV. FC Groningen takes on FC Volendam in the first round at home.
The exact dates of the Hondsrug derby will only be known at a later stage and depend on the performance and wishes of the Dutch participants in European football. It is certain that the fratricide will take place in the weekends of October 28, 29, 30 and February 17, 18, 19. There are many more regional get-togethers this season with no fewer than four premier divisionists in the northern three provinces. The traditional derbies of the north between FC Groningen and sc Heerenveen are only scheduled for January and March 2023.
The 20220-2023 season will be opened on Friday 5 August by sc Heerenveen and Sparta Rotterdam. The first traditional classic between Ajax and Feyenoord is scheduled for January 22, 2023. As in previous years, the starting times on Saturday 4.30 pm and Sunday 8 pm are also possible. All clubs play at least once on a Saturday afternoon. It has not yet been announced which matches will be played on Sunday evening. That also depends on the wishes of the European Cup participants. The program that the KNVB has published is a draft program. The final program usually follows a few days later.
