Benfica called transfer numbers

Benfica Lisbon announced the transfer of player Darwin Núñez early Monday morning and gave details of the fee they will receive from Liverpool FC. The 22-year-old striker will become both the Portuguese’s second most expensive sale and at least the second most expensive acquisition by the Premier League club if he signs in England. So far, no communication has been heard from the Reds in this regard.
According to official club information, Benfica has reached an agreement with Liverpool for a transfer fee of 75 million euros that can still be expanded. For the record champions, this is the second highest sum after the sale of João Félix to Atlético. So far in the current transfer summer there has only been one deal that went through the stage for a larger fee: the transfer of Aurélien Tchouameni (22) from Monaco to Real Madrid. Just like the Frenchman, Núñez’s price could still rise to a total of €100m with bonuses, Benfica explained.

If the three-digit million amount is reached, Núñez will meanwhile also be a record transfer in Liverpool. With the previous transfer fee of 75 million euros, the Uruguayan is still behind Virgil van Dijk (84.65 million euros). Centre-forward Núñez ended the season in the Portuguese league as the top scorer, despite only making 28 appearances of the season. However, nobody came close to the 26 goals scored by the international. The move to Liverpool is now dependent on the signing at the LFC, which can be expected shortly. Núñez was under contract for around two years at Benfica, who brought him from Almería for €24m.

Update June 14, 8:03 p.m.: Liverpool FC also announced the transfer on Tuesday evening and spoke of a long-term contract for Núñez, which is said to be valid for six years. “It’s a pleasure to be here at Liverpool and I’m very happy to be a part of this great club. I’ve played against Liverpool and seen them in a lot of Champions League games and that’s my style of play. There are some great players here and I think my style of play is well received here, ”said the newcomer, who will wear the number 27 shirt in the future, which attacker Divock Origi wore until the end (see Reds shirt number history).
