Tempelhof Sounds will also take place in 2023

With more than 30,000 visitors a day and an attractive line-up, the first edition of Tempelhof Sounds on the site of the former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin ended on Sunday (June 12).

With almost 50 gigs in three days, the new city festival has developed into one of the most exciting newcomers on the market. The focus is on guitar rock. And it’s all in the mix: There were headlining shows by The Strokes, Florence + the Machine and Muse, plus performances by Alt-J, The Libertines, Interpol, Idles, Royal Blood, Two Door Cinema Club, Sophie Hunger, Courtney Barnett and Griff and Anna Calvi.

Tempelhof Sounds will also take place next year, as the organizers FKP Scorpio, Loft Concerts and Dreamhaus confirmed on Monday (June 13). The exact date, start of advance sales and the first acts will be announced shortly.

It is important for the organizers to focus on a balanced cast on stage. Festival booker Talissa Buhl: “Our entire team is overjoyed that we were able to present a high-quality and diverse line-up with a high participation of female acts at this unforgettable location. We are pleased that we have succeeded in setting an example for more diversity on festival stages.”

Social and ecological sustainability are also among the goals of the Tempelhof Sound. This includes supplying the festival with green electricity, special measures to avoid and separate waste, and the use of dry toilets.

In any case, the festival was welcomed with open arms by the Berliners, and the excellent summer weather supported the good mood on the former airfield.
