According to the police, the man probably had car trouble, left his car and walked towards Eindhoven over the hard shoulder. There he was hit by a truck. It is not yet clear whether the driver was aware of this.
A passing motorist saw the accident, provided first aid and alerted the emergency services.
Police are looking for witnesses and are calling on people to share dashcam footage.
