Oscar Otte missed the final at the Weissenhof in Stuttgart. The native of Cologne lost against the Italian Matteo Berrettini in two hard-fought sets.
Tennis professional Oscar Otte missed the first entry into the final of an ATP tournament. At the lawn tournament in Stuttgart, the 28-year-old lost 6:7 (7:9), 6:7 (5:7) to Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini despite a good performance. For Otte, it was the second semi-final of his career. The top four ended at the tournament in Munich at the end of April. In the coming world rankings, Otte could be among the top 50 for the first time, and if he had won a tournament in Stuttgart, he could even have jumped into the top 35.
Otte loses both sets in the tie-breaker
Otte kept up well against the favorite Berrettini and missed a set point in the tie-break of the first round. Both players dominated on their own serve, only Otte had to fend off a breakball against himself. The Italian Berrettini will face two-time Wimbledon winner Andy Murray (Great Britain) or Nick Kyrgios from Australia in the final.
Murray defeated Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals
Former world number one Andy Murray made it into the semi-finals at the Weissenhof on Friday thanks to a 7: 6 (7: 4), 6: 3 against top Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas. On Saturday, the 35-year-old Scot will play against Australian Nick Kyrgios for a place in the final. In 2019, Murray had already announced the end of his career due to his serious hip problems, but then returned after an operation.
